The Boy and the Heron (1/29/24)
The Boy and the Heron
I am going to say that this movie was okay. I am a little bit biased because I do not like animated films. First of all, this movie does not meet my criteria for movies I like. I tend to like the super high actions films with lots of violence. I went into this movie thinking it was going to hate it but it actually wasn't horrible. I think that the plot was a little bit interesting but it seemed like a copy of the Star Wars movie Revenge of the Sith. The plot of this movie is a boy named Mahito loses his mother in a fire and is moved to a new home where he is taken care of by new parents. During this, a Heron tells him his mother is still alive and he can save her. This kind of reflects Revenge of the Sith since Palpatine (Heron) convinces Anakin (Mahito) that he can save Padme (his mother) by following his orders.
This movie seems more like a tragic event turned into an epic story. The film deals with elements of loss and grief which happen to some people in real life. I think that some of the characters are well made though. Mahito is a well rounded character. He is determined and loving but he also has flaws like blaming himself for everything and desperation. We see that Mahito has a great love for his mother but this also causes him to hurt himself with a rock when he could not save her from death. This shows the hardships of everyday life for people and how some peoples' lives can be harder than others.
Although I was not too huge on the film I think it was well made. I would recommend this film to people who like animated films but not to people who don't like animated films.
